Descrizione

È un pesce sia marino che d'acqua dolce essendo anadromo; con una distribuzione batimetrica dai 10 ai 400 m di profondità. Raggiunge una lunghezza massima di 60 cm, con una media di 40 e un peso massimo pubblicato di 1,5 kg. L'età massima riportata è di 25 anni.

Diffusione

Si trova nell'Atlantico nord-orientale: coste atlantiche dall'Islanda meridionale e occidentale al Marocco settentrionale, compreso il Mare del Nord, Mar Baltico; anche Mar Mediterraneo e Mar Nero.
